Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR) is delighted to announce a new official partnership with the Victorian Goalball Association (VGA).
Delivered through DSR's Community Sport Inclusion Partner Model, the partnership will support the delivery
of the 2026 Australian Goalball Championships (AGC), to be held at RMIT University Bundoora in October, continuing through to the 2027 season.
Goalball is a fast-paced, highly strategic sport that empowers participants of all ages and genders who are blind or have low vision, building confidence, social connection, independence and lifelong health.
DSR is proud to support VGA's mission by providing player and coach funding, event and volunteer support, accessible digital media, marketing assistance and strategic planning to strengthen. Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen the future of goalball across Victoria.
Liz Tesone, CEO of Disability Sport & Recreation, said:
"At DSR, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the life-changing benefits of sport and active recreation. Goalball embodies everything we value about inclusive sport. It builds confidence, resilience, connection and a strong sense of belonging for people who are blind or have low vision."
"We are excited to partner with the Victorian Goalball Association to help grow participation, strengthen pathways for athletes and create an exceptional Australian Goalball Championships experience. Through this partnership, we can work together to remove barriers and ensure more Victorians can access the physical, social and mental health benefits that sport provides."
Brooke Carter, President of the Victorian Goalball Association, said:
"It is a privilege to work with Disability Sport & Recreation and have their support for the 2026 Australian Goalball Championships. The event gives us the opportunity to showcase the talent and dedication of our athletes and coaches. As a small, volunteer-run sport, this support is invaluable.
Our mission is to improve the social, health and wellbeing of people who are blind or have low vision through offering inclusive sporting opportunities, which we can't do without partners like Disability Sport & Recreation.”
