Level the Field Hub Launches

Practical online learning and tools to support people with disability to grow and help organisations strengthen inclusive workplace practices so people, organisations and communities can thrive.

Disability Sport & Recreation (DSR), the peak body for inclusive and accessible sport and active recreation in Victoria, has today launched the Level the Field Hub, a new learning and development platform that supports people with disability to build skills and confidence, explore pathways into work and volunteering, and grow within the sport and active recreation sector, while helping organisations create more inclusive workplaces and volunteer environments across regional Victoria.

More than a fifth of Australians have a disability, but they remain significantly underrepresented in the sport and recreation workforce. Developed by DSR with a $2.5 million investment through the Victorian Government’s All Abilities Workforce and Sector Support Program, the Hub provides free training for people with disability and practical guidance for sport and active recreation organsations to build inclusive workplaces and volunteer environments.

Co-designed by people with lived experience of disability and leaders in the community, sport and active recreation sector from across regional Victoria, the Hub combines self-paced online learning, practical tools and downloadable resources. It was developed in partnership with Inspire Group and Victoria University, with guidance from a Program Advisory Group including VicSport, Aquatics and Recreation Victoria, Regional Sport Victoria and the Municipal Association of Victoria.

DSR CEO Liz Tesone said: “The Level the Field Hub gives both people and organisations the confidence, knowledge and practical tools to create real change. Whether you’re looking to volunteer, build a career, recruit staff or strengthen your organisation, the Hub provides a clear pathway forward.”

Paralympian Shelley Matheson, who co-led one of the regional consultation groups, said: “People with disability have so much to gain – and so much to offer. This throws open the door.”

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said: “We’re proud to back this game-changing online learning hub that will help people with disability build skills and explore opportunities to work and volunteer in sport and recreation.”

The Hub is part of the Victorian Government’s $40 million All Abilities Sport Fund, which is supporting greater accessibility and inclusion in sport and active recreation across the state.

It is free for people with disability, and full access for organisations is free until June 2027.

Thank you to the Victorian Government for its investment through the All Abilities Workforce and Sector Support Program, our partners Inspire Group, etrainu, Victoria University and Leisure Networks, our Program Advisory Group: Vicsport , Aquatics & Recreation Victoria, Regional Sport Victoria and the Municipal Association of Victoria.
