DSR Awards & Festival wrap up

Disability Sport & Recreation's (DSR) 60th Anniversary year culminated in two amazing annual events, both of which were huge successes once again in 2022.

The Victorian Disability Sport & Recreation awards were held at the PwC in Southbank on Tuesday, November 8th, in honour of DSR's 60th anniversary. The event recognized the accomplishments, hard work, and dedication of sportspeople and volunteers in Victoria's inclusive sport and recreation sector.

Many members of the disability sporting community attended the event to celebrate their peers' achievements, making the night a resounding success. Former Paralympian Elle Steele delivered the keynote speech, sharing her journey and offering inspirational words to the guests. Kevin Coombs, founder of DSR and Australia's first Indigenous Paralympian, also attended the ceremony to present the "Kevin Coombs Lifetime Achievement Award" which is awarded in his honour.

Additionally, on Friday December 2, the Disability Sport & Recreation Festival took place on the Crown Riverwalk in Southbank. The event was a great success, attracting a large crowd eager to participate and join in on all the fun.

Exhibitors from various organizations such as AFL Victoria, Rugby Victoria, and Football Victoria were present, showcasing their sports and activities to the public. The event also featured live music from DJ Cooper Smith, a wheelchair AFL tournament, and the lighting of a torch following the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Victoria.

We look forward to seeing you all at these events once again at the end of this year!
