Bruno Moretti
Inducted in 1993
Life Member since 1993
Born in 1941, Bruno is a founding member of Disability Sport & Recreation, since the inaugural meeting was held to establish a club to support wheelchair sport athletes.
Bruno was a watchmaker by trade and worked for the council repairing the some of the most difficult timing designs in the day. Having never walked, Bruno grew up in a time when wheelchairs were wooden and advocacy for equal working rights was minimal. He has seen much change in his time and is positive about the future provided for Australia’s young athletes with disability.
Bruno represented Australia at both the 1960 Rome and 1968 Tel Aviv Paralympics, winning one gold and three silver medals in table tennis and athletics. He also represented Australia at the 1962 Australia and 1966 Jamaica Edinburgh Games (Commonwealth Games), winning five gold medals in weightlifting, table tennis, basketball and athletics.
Having retired from competition in the 70s, Bruno went on to coach a number of teams including the Australian wheelchair basketball team and the first Australian wheelchair rugby team in 1984.
