Become a Peer Support Volunteer
The Peer Support component within the Rehabilitation to Recreation Program is a support network designed to encourage, inform and assist people with a newly acquired disability to engage in physical activity through active sport and recreation programs following their departure from the rehabilitation setting.
Continued Support
Peer support volunteers will be matched to a participant according to disability type and location. They will make contact with recipients periodically during their time in rehabilitation and once they have returned home, to track their progress. Recipients may contact volunteers on an ongoing basis, to initiate a meeting, talk about everyday challenges or to ask for guidance in getting involved in sport and recreation.

Disability Sport & Recreation requires Peer Support Volunteers that fulfill the requirements as stipulated in the downloadable “Peer Support Volunteer Position Description”.
The main criteria for this role include that the individual
• Has a disability
• Is an active participant in sport and recreation for a period of at least two years
• Resides in metropolitan Melbourne or regional Victoria
Peer support volunteers will be provided with comprehensive training and will be given clear definitions of their roles and responsibilities.
