Our History

Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR) has grown from the grassroots actions of a group of 8 people who were united by the ambition to compete in paraplegic sporting events at an international level. Established in 1962 as the ParaVics Sports Club, our organisation was previously known as Wheelchair Sports Victoria. Currently, DSR has over 1000 members. We have evolved from providing a range of sport and recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities into the health-promoting peak organisation for the disability and recreation sector in Victoria. Whilst we are an extremely community conscious organisation, we have been successful in producing a number of World and Paralympics champions. The generous donations and support of the Victorian community mean we are able to continue nearly 50 years of work supporting Victorians with disability.
